Description

The spark protection barrier OWEN Spark is designed to protect the electrical circuit of the sensor by limiting the voltage and current in it to intrinsically safe values.

SPARK is installed in an electrical circuit that connects a sensor located in an explosive zone and a secondary converter (device) located in an explosive zone.

In accordance with GOST R 31610.11-2014, the ISKRA barrier has an explosion-proof marking [Ex ia IIC] and implements the type of explosion protection “intrinsically safe electrical circuit” – i, is certified for the explosion protection level “specially explosion-proof” – a and category IIC.

The spark protection barrier is used to protect intrinsically safe circuits when exposed to a voltage of up to 250 V and is installed outside the hazardous area with mandatory spark protection grounding. The barrier is a passive device.

Spark protection barriers OWEN ISKRA are used in control, signaling and emergency protection systems in fire and explosion hazardous areas where explosive mixtures of gases, vapors, as well as flammable and explosive substances (dust, powder) are present.

Functionality

  • Limits the voltage and current in the circuit to intrinsically safe values when exposed to a voltage barrier up to 250 V.
  • It has intrinsically safe circuits of level “ia” – extra explosion-proof.
  • It is used in the most explosive non-mining environments where hydrogen, acetylene (group IIC) are present.
  • High reliability of explosion protection is provided by a circuit solution:
    • triangulation of semiconductor elements that limit voltage;
    • two-stage emergency voltage “quenching” system: the first stage (on TVS-diodes) “cuts off” powerful surges of voltage, the second (on zener diodes) – reduces the voltage to an intrinsically safe value.

ISKRA barriers are available in three modifications for different types of sensors

  • ISKRA-AT.03 – spark protection barrier for sensors with output current signal 0…5 mA, 0(4)…20 mA:
    • a wide range of supply voltages for sensors with an output current signal (up to 28 V);
    • withstands a short-term (up to 1 min) short circuit at the output terminals without fuse operation;
    • does not require repeated power off and power on in case of a short-term short circuit on the output terminals.
  • ISKRA-TP.03 – spark protection barrier for thermocouples and sensors with output voltage signal -1…+1 V:
    • Ability to work with voltage sources up to 6 V.
  • ISKRA-TS.03 – spark protection barrier for thermal resistance type TSM/TSP:
    • low barrier error (up to 0.1% of the measurement range) due to accurate selection of resistors and fuses;
    • low transitional resistance “cable-barrier”, provided by the connection of wires “under the screw”.
