Description

Betastar Combo (Betastar Combo) is a test for the accelerated determination of antibiotics of the beta-lactam / cephalosporin group (penicillin, ampicillin, cephalosporin, etc.) and antibiotics of the tetracycline group in cow, goat and sheep milk. “Beta Star®” is a rapid test based on the analysis of specific beta-lactam receptors, proteins associated with gold particles. The analysis takes 5 minutes. The use of this system makes it possible to save results on test strips for comparison and demonstration to interested parties. The color values on the test strips are constant and can be stored as a reference for future work.

Peculiarities:

  • Spectrum of action – antibiotics of the beta-lactam series
  • High sensitivity – from 2mg/g
  • Simple interpretation of the result
  • Minimum time to determine results
  • Test strips can be stored and used for comparison
  • Incubation time increase does not affect the result

The Beta Star® test is available as a complete set of 25 determinations.

The test contains bound reagents, proteins bound to gold particles, and has two steps: 1. A given amount of milk is added to a vial with a specific amount of bound protein that will react with beta-lactams and/or tetracyclines present.

2. At the second stage, the incubated medium is allowed to migrate to the Betastar Combo indicator rod (immunochromatographic paper strip), where the determination is made by three strips on the rod.
The first (lower) line on the rod captures all tetracycline-bound reagents that did not interact with tetracycline antibiotics during pre-incubation. Second (middle) line
on the rod serves as a control line to ensure that the test works correctly, and also serves as a comparison line for the first and third lines. Third (top) line
captures all beta-lactam-related reagents that did not interact with beta-lactam antibiotics during pre-incubation. In milk with levels of beta-lactam and tetracycline antibiotics below the detectable level, the upper and lower lines of the test will appear red with a greater color intensity than the control line, and the test result is considered negative (no antibiotics). If the upper and lower test lines do not appear, or they appear as pale red, the bound proteins have been completely or partially blocked by the antibiotics present, and the test result is considered positive (antibiotics are present). If no control line appears, the test is invalid.

Storage/transport:

  • Food temperature at (2-8)°C
  • Betastar Combo must be transported at ambient temperature

(up to 7 days at a temperature not exceeding 45°C). After receiving the tests, store them under the above conditions.

  • The shelf life of Betastar Combo is 12 months from the date of production, subject to storage conditions.

Usage:
Follow the instructions included with each test kit.
Important information:

  • Be sure to use test rods and vials from the same set. Mixing test rods and vials from different test kits may lead to incorrect results.
  • The stages of incubation (stage 1) and migration to the rod (stage 2) are 2 minutes and 3 minutes, respectively, at a temperature of 47.5 ± 1°C.
  • Before opening the Betastar Combo rod container, let it warm up to room temperature for at least 10 minutes.

Evaluation of results: The test result is evaluated by comparing each test line (upper and lower) with the control line in the middle.
Negative test result (no antibiotics): test lines are more intense, or equal in intensity, than the control line.
Positive test result (antibiotics are present): test lines are paler than the control line or absent.

Beta Star® tests are included in the National Standard of the Russian Federation – GOST R 53774-2010 “Milk and dairy products. Enzyme immunoassay methods for determining the presence of antibiotics ” Order No. 24-st of February 26, 2010.
