| Lamp DNS 18, D – arc; Na – sodium; C – spectral; 18 – rated power, W. The lamp is a low-pressure sodium arc spectral discharge lamp, it has a flask made of SL 97-1 glass, inside of which there is a tube of sodium-resistant glass – an emitter filled with a strictly metered amount of metallic sodium and argon. The arc discharge occurs in sodium vapor. The lamp is a source emitting yellow light in the spectral range with wavelengths of 589 and 589.6 nm and is used in spectrophotometers, spectroscopy, refractometry, polarimetry, chemistry, lighting engineering, medical technology, laboratory equipment, and also as a reference lamp in polarimeters (POLARIMETER CIRCULAR SM-3, polarimeter SM-3B). The lamp operates in electrical networks of alternating current with a voltage of 127 – 220 V and a frequency of 50 Hz and is connected to the network together with ballasts that provide ignition of the lamps, normal operation and elimination of radio interference. Sodium is a reactive metal. If moisture comes into contact with metallic sodium, it ignites, which can cause burns, therefore, when replacing lamps, care must be taken not to break it.
